In March 2020, the Cyberspace Solarium Commission issued a report with 82 recommendations to improve U.S. cybersecurity, including many provisions designed to better enable resilience in the private sector and partnership across sectors. Over the course of the past year, these recommendations have been built into legislation, reflected in executive action, funded through Congressional appropriations, and explored in greater detail in a series of Commission white papers. This discussion will outline the current status of the Commission's work and consider what other steps are required to advance cybersecurity resilience in the U.S.

Laura Bate, Senior Director, U.S. Cyberspace Solarium Commission
Biography
Laura Bate is a Senior Director for the U.S. Cyberspace Solarium Commission, where she focuses on issues including international engagement, workforce development, and cybercrime. Prior to joining the Commission, she was a policy analyst with the Cybersecurity Initiative at New America. She is a 2021 Shawn Brimley Next Generation National Security Fellow at the Center for a New American Security and a member of the Mid-Atlantic Affiliate of Women in Cybersecurity (WiCyS). Laura received her master's degree from Georgetown University's Security Studies Program where her research focused on the implementation of big data tools in an intelligence environment. She holds a bachelor's degree in economics and international affairs from the University of Colorado -Boulder and studied Arabic at the American University in Cairo.
The intent of this and future Cyber Security and Privacy Research Institute (CSPRI) webinars is to give GW faculty and students glimpses of the vibrant security and privacy private sector in the Washington region and to promote dialog and debate regarding breakthrough initiatives. The potential for support for research or conference papers on related topics will be part of the discussion.
